Do I need previous Pilates experience to enrol?

Prior experience helps, but it is not a requirement. We welcome people who are new to teaching and serious about learning. We do recommend at least 6 months of regular Pilates practice before you start, so that the foundational exercises are already familiar in your own body.

Can I do this alongside a full-time job?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and most of our students do. The online modules are self-paced, so you decide when to study. The only fixed commitments are the opening live call and the six in-person teaching days, and those dates are published before you book so you can arrange leave well in advance.

Question 3

How long does the full programme take to complete?

Accepted Answer

Most students finish in 3 to 6 months, depending on how quickly they work through the online material, and the programme runs to over 550 hours of material, practice and observation. Your access to the platform does not expire: the videos and written material stay yours for as long as we run the Academy, so you can come back to a technique years later. We do ask you to complete your assessments within 12 months of starting, and if life gets in the way, tell us.

How many hours a week should I set aside?

Plan for around 8 to 10 hours a week to finish comfortably within six months, and nearer 15 if you want to be done in three. That covers the online lessons, the reading, and filming and reviewing your own practice. On top of it sit the fixed dates, which are the opening live call and the six in-person studio days. The rest of the 550 hours is observation and teaching practice that you build up in a studio rather than at a screen, at whatever pace suits you, which is what makes the programme workable alongside a job. If a week gets away from you nothing is lost: the material does not expire, and we only ask that your assessments are completed within 12 months of starting.

What actually happens on the in-person days?

There are two visits to the studio, each running Friday, Sunday and Monday. The first covers the Reformer, the second covers the Circuit apparatus and the advanced material. You are taught and mentored in a small group, and you practise teaching rather than only being taught. The Saturday in the middle is deliberately kept free: it is there for you to train in the studio yourself and put your points to use, which is exactly the practice that turns what you have learned into teaching. Please keep all four days of each visit clear when booking travel.

Where do the in-person sessions take place?

At Sentiré Pilates, 23 Eccleston Place, Belgravia, London SW1W 9NF. Every practical session and assessment happens in our own studio, on the apparatus you will be qualified to teach on.

Question 7

What is included in the fee, and are there extras?

Accepted Answer

The fee covers everything: the online programme, the anatomy course, all six in-person teaching days, the PDF booklet, and your assessment and final certification. There is no separate anatomy prerequisite to buy and no exam fee at the end, which is not always the case elsewhere. The only cost to budget for beyond the fee is your own travel and accommodation for the studio visits, if you are not London based.

How do the 1,000 points work?

Every student receives 1,000 points, worth £1,000, to spend at Sentiré Pilates on Reformer classes, Circuit sessions or private mentoring. Practising in a working studio is what turns knowledge into teaching, so we would rather pay for it than tell you to go and find it.

Question 9

What qualification will I receive?

Accepted Answer

The Sentiré Pilates Academy Instructor Certification, covering mat and full-equipment Pilates, anatomy, teaching methodology and business skills. To be straightforward with you: this is our own certification. Like most Pilates teacher training in the UK it is not a regulated qualification and is not awarded by an external body. If recognition by a particular employer, insurer or membership organisation matters to you, check with them before enrolling and ask us if we can help.

Is there a job at the end of it?

There can be. Sentiré Pilates is a working Belgravia studio as well as an academy, and graduates who reach the standard we teach may have the opportunity to join us as instructors. You will already know the studio, the apparatus and how we work with clients. We will not promise anyone a job, and you should be wary of any school that does, but the route is real and it is one of the reasons we train people ourselves.

Question 11

Will I need my own insurance?

For the teaching you do inside our studio you are covered by us. Once you start observation or teaching practice elsewhere, you will need your own cover, and the studio hosting you may ask to see it. Question 12

What happens if I do not pass an assessment?

You resit it, and the first resit is included. Some modules are self-marked and some are marked by a tutor; which is which is stated before you begin each one. If you think a tutor-marked result is wrong you can appeal within 28 days, and your work is reviewed by someone who was not involved in the original decision.

Can I pay in instalments?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when your course starts far enough ahead. You pay a £995 deposit when you enrol, then the balance in two equal payments, and we show you the exact dates and amounts before you pay anything. The last payment falls at least 14 days before the course begins, so it is settled in full before you start. Your card is safely stored by Stripe and those two payments are taken automatically. The £995 deposit is non-refundable once the 14-day cancellation period has passed, because your place is one of eight and is held for you from the moment you enrol. If a course starts too soon to space the payments out, it can only be paid in full, and you are welcome to take a place on a later one.

Question 14

What if I change my mind, or need to move to a later course?

Accepted Answer

You have 14 days from booking to cancel for a full refund, no reason needed. You may also defer to the next course at no extra charge if you tell us at least 4 weeks before your start date. After the 14 days, cancelling more than 8 weeks before the course starts is a full refund; between 4 and 8 weeks before, you receive 50% back or can move your full payment to a later course; inside 4 weeks, or once the course has started, there is no refund, because your place has been held and cannot be resold at short notice on a course of eight. If we ever have to cancel a course, you choose between a full refund and a transfer. It is all set out on our Legal page, which you can read before you pay.
